Through a series of unaltered photographic portraits, I have strived to convey the sense of a loss of identity by stripping away the instantly obvious and relatable human traits from my subjects. I have approached this topic by making my work inviting yet with a dark undertone, exploring ideas around inner conflict and loss of self that often accompanies victims of traumatic instances.

This body of work explores, the ability for cultures as a whole and people as individuals to view others, not as who they are, but instead a version that has stripped them of their identity and humanity. In particular this work acknowledges the propensity for this type of gaze to fall on woman.
